What Is Galvalume? | Metal Glossary | Industrial Metal Supply

Galvalume is a corrosion resistant steel product that has been coated by a hot dip process with an aluminum zinc alloy. The coating is typically about 55 percent aluminum, about 43 percent zinc, and a small amount of silicon, which helps the coating bond to the steel. This combination gives Galvalume strong long term corrosion protection and good heat reflectivity compared with standard galvanized steel, which uses a zinc only coating.

Galvalume is commonly used for roofing and siding panels, trim, gutters, and other building components where weather resistance matters. It performs especially well in many outdoor environments, but like any coated steel, cut edges and scratches should be protected when possible, and fabrication methods should account for the coating. If welding or high heat cutting is required, proper ventilation and safety practices are important because coatings can create fumes when heated.
